Comparison of the 7th Standards (Technology) and the objectives of this course

While reading the 7th standard of Michigan’s State plan, I felt like I accomplished many of the listed skills. The class objectives mirrored the state standards but also assigned classwork which I found to be good practice. The standard which best describes my experience is:

Use technology to engage in ongoing professional development, practice, productivity, communication, and life-long learning.

Since the first day of this course, I have noticed professional development within myself. For example, I never experimented with plagiarism software. The first assignment gave me an insight into the world of “plagiarism.” This assignment also gave me an assessment tool, which will be helpful in and outside of the classroom. As a parent, I can pass the information on to my children, as an educator I can enlighten co-workers and students.

This course has definitely kept me productive. The technology that I have engaged in is hands-on. This approach helps me put the information I learned in that special place in my memory bank. Communication is shown throughout the course. By engaging in Wimba Online Sessions, postings response blogs, and using Feedback Forums, I have learned a better way to use technology to communicate. (Before this class, I was limited to college emails and Facebook.)

The most rewarding part of the Michigan’s State standards and these course objectives is that the things I learn will be beneficial to me and others I teach. This course started me on the track that I want to continue. Because technology is forever changing, I know that my learning will be life-long.
