What a busy first week. Before creating accounts to sites such as Delicious, Wikispaces, and Flickr, my social networking skills were limited to simple Facebook. Call me 'old fashion' but I still prefer to spend hours in a library, contact people through letters, and "spread the word" using my vocal chords. I know this limits my capabilites but this is the social networking that I prefered. (notice the past tense).
After watching the professor create herself in goanimate.com, I was surprised. Who knew technology could be so simple and fun! When I showed the video to my own children, they were hooked. My daughter and I actually visited the website together and played around. Eventually, I had to get back to work but she continued on for hours. By the evening my daughter had become an "expert" and I went from being the teacher to being a student.

I appreciate the fact that technology has become so easy that parents and children can work side-by-side. Often parents won't interact with their kids using computers because they feel computers/programs are complicated, but programs such as goanimate.com proves that this is not always the case.
Great posting Tiffany! I think it's great that you have the opportunity to work with your daughter in the avenue of technology. So often, parents stand back and let their child explore any and all areas of the net, and that's where the trouble begins. Kudos to you for taking an active role in your child's technological life!
ReplyDeleteTiffany - I'm with you on the "old-fashioned" part. However, I was also taken by the goanimate video and was surprised at how simple the process is. I think that this class is going to change my opinions about technology.
